Rumors of a Google Base

Google BaseRumblings of something big is coming from Google.

Google has launched Google Base (which is not entirely functional yet) and people are trying to figure out what Google is planning to do with this release.

The Google Base page, located at may be taken the page down as it sees fit as it is still in its early stages), states:

Post your items on Google.

Google Base is Google's database into which you can add all types of content. We'll host your content and make it searchable online for free.

Examples of items you can find in Google Base:

  • Description of your party planning service

  • Articles on current events from your website

  • Listing of your used car for sale

  • Database of protein structures

You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local."

Rumors are swirling that Google could be trying to rival with Ebay and/or introduce a competing online paying service like PayPal.

Others are saying that Google might be replacing MySQL databases with GoogleSQL.

Google has, according to stated in an email that Google Base is simply an easier way for Gooreceiverecieve content from webmasters.

I think it's just looks to big for that. Look for Google Base to make a big splash soon.
