This site basically intentionally leaves a blank page so that you can rest your mind and your eyes.

With all the color packed web pages, with flashing ads and bright text the blank page is supposed to give you a break.

I don't really know what to think. On one hand it seems psychologically sound. Relax by clearing your mind by looking at a blank page.

On the other hand: IT'S A BLANK PAGE. Why are we wasting time looking at a blank page?

Apple to Release 'Major' News

Well, Apple is going to release some big news. Silicon.com is reportedly saying that Apple sent invitations to reporters for a special event occurring on September 7.

The invitation reads as follows:

"1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again."

So, what could be the next thing that 'changes everything'.

Well, rumor has it that it could be any of the following.

1. The expansion of iTunes to play popular music videos and/or a Video iPod.


2. Samsung has been reportedly giving as much as 40% of dedication of it's flash memory production to iPod. Could a larger-capacity version of Apple's flash-based Shuffle player, or even the switch of the iPod Mini to a flash-based technology be in the works?


3. Could an iTunes-compatible mobile phone coming out? Motorola is going to start ship it's iTunes cell phone in September.

Silicon.com said of the rumors:

Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg cautioned against expecting anything too far out of Apple's existing product line, saying that a video iPod is unlikely. The iTunes-compatible phone is a likely candidate, he said, but added that the company could have surprises in store.

But rumors are just rumors, and analysts can say what they want. It's only Apple that knows what's about to come. Let's hope they surprise us well.

This is definitely some good news we're hearing about Apple ever since the Microsoft vs. Apple iPod patent dispute.

FBI: Zotob Creators Nabbed!

The creators of the Zotob and Mytob have been arrested by the FBI.

The culprits were young men within my age range again carrying on the belief (which to some extent is true) that its young boys who hack and/or create viruses and worms.

Arrested are Farid Essebar (a.k.a. "Diabl0"),18, a Moroccan living and Russia, and
Atilla Ekici (a.k.a. "Coder"), 21, of Turkish residence.

The Zotob worm created much havoc around the world, infecting computers everywhere.

The Mytob worm was released in February and came through e-mail. The suspects allegedly used the information of their victims to commit bank fraud.

Conversations On Cellphones Can Be Deadly

A study has reported that it's not the type of cellphone you use but it's the conversation that is really deadly.
The study came from the 25th issue of the Applied Cognitive Psychology journal.

Note what it forbes.com says the study showed:

For the study, almost 100 students took part in experiments in which they drove virtual cars. While driving, they had to provide answers about the layout of buildings on the University of Illinois campus, or check that statements made by others about relative positions of the buildings were correct. The researchers monitored various aspects of the students' driving while they performed these tasks.

Participants drove a car simulator that was an automatic shift 1998 Saturn SL. The experiments simulated a straight, two-lane rural highway with no intersections or turns. Simulated wind gusts increased the difficulty of driving, as did the presence of another car that drove erratically ahead of the virtual car.

Overall, the researchers found that both speaking and listening on the phone reduced the drivers' competence on the road, resulting in slower driving, more trouble staying in the proper lane and/or not keeping a safe distance from the unwieldy car ahead.

This scenario illustrates that point:

Okay, you are driving on the road and you can clearly see everything.

Now, your wife calls and says, "Honey, where did you leave my car keys?".

Your brain at this moment shifts gears, from watching the road to virtually scanning your house: the kitchen, the bedroom, the family room etc. looking for those keys.

When your brain does that it's really impossible to totally focus your attention on the road. Your reflexes are delayed . . . and that's how accidents happen.

Don't believe me? Ok, go to the top of this post and begin reading again. This time I want you to visualize your whole house. Go from room to room, and try to read this post.

I guarantee you can't do both. You'll probably notice that the screen goes blurry as you do this exercise.

You're only reading and not driving a car that needs to be controlled constantly because of the dynamic conditions of the road.

So, I hope you learn something. You should only talk and drive in an emergency.

Just pull over to the side of the road and talk there. Yes, you may lose some time but at least you won't lose your life!

Worm Alert: Zotob (Update)

Microsoft has now come out with some more information as to who else could be susceptible to a Zotob-like attack.

If you don't know about Zotob you can get more information here.

Microsoft is now saying that certain Windows XP users are vulnerable.

Now if you recall, it was only Windows 2000 operating systems that were at risk, however, if you use Windows XP you could be susceptible if:

• You are currently running Windows XP


• You have Windows Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed


• You have enabled Simple File and Print Sharing


• Your computer contains a Guest account

Those with Windows XP operating systems with Service Pack 2 installed are not affected as are those who have installed the patch.

To avoid getting infected you may want to get rid of your Guest account and install the patch.

Google Introduces Google Talk

Google has introduced a very nice project: Google Talk.

Google Talk would be the newest instant messaging service with a ambitious goal.

Google Talk is currently in Beta stage, but here's the scoop on what it will provide.

First, Google Talk will link it's Gmail accounts to Google Talk. That's similar to how MSN messenger links to its Hotmail accounts.

Secondly, Google Talk will be more than just the next instant messaging service, because it will also contain Voice Over-IP capabilities.

Thirdly, and here's where things get real cool, Google Talk is trying to make all instant messaging services compatible with each other.

For example, if you use MSN messenger you can't talk to someone with Yahoo! messenger. But Google Talk wants to break down those barriers.

Because Google Talk is based on the open source Jabber protocol called Extensible Message and Presence Protocol(XMPP), it wants to interconnect all other instant messaging services.

You are able to download the beta version of Google Talk. Of course, you must have a Gmail account.

Previously, few had access to a Gmail accounts, but Google has stated that from today forward it is looking to make Gmail accounts more accessible to more people.

This is an interesting twist in the world of Technology. So get chatting!

Get Your E-mail Icon Generated

I have been visiting many blogs lately and saw a neat icon that many of them had.

The majority were Gmail accounts and they had a similar icon to the one I recently added. I contacted the owner of The Gist Of It, Simon, and he gave me this cool site.

The website allows you to enter you e-mail and choose the appropriate host: hotmail, gmail, aol, msn, yahoo, and many more.

Once you enter it. An icon is generated that contains you address and the logo of the company that you have your e-mail account with.

It's very unique and can be used to be placed on a website, blog or anywhere for that matter.

You can use the url they give you or save the image and use upload it to the appropriate server or program.

Sony's Walkman Bean Launched

Sony has launched the Walkman Bean. The flash memory based music player will come in both 512MB and 1GB memory sizes and even one with a 512MB capacity with a FM tuner added with it.

The name 'Bean' comes with the unique bean-like shape of this music player.

It also has a direct pop-up USB jack, which can be inserted into your computer to transfer music files to this the Walkman Bean.

Sony always gives high technology with its devices and this one is no different.

The Walkman Bean has a lithium-ion researchable battery that can play for as long as 50 hours. It also is quickly researchable: 3 minutes of recharging gives you 30 hours of playback.

I'm sure that Sony's Walkman Bean will delight music fans out there.

Internet Explorer Needs Fix - Again

Well, Microsoft is currently working to fix another bug in Internet Explorer . . . again.

This time the flaw allows malicious code to be executed if one visits a malicious site.

This is what Microsoft itself said:

The Microsoft DDS Library Shape Control (Msdds.dll) is a COM object that could, when called from a Web page displayed in Internet Explorer, cause Internet Explorer to unexpectedly exit. This condition could potentially allow remote code execution if a user visited a malicious Web site.

So, if your not a techy person here's what you need to know. Windows doesn't come with the Msdds.dll file.

The only way you would be affected or possibly at risk is if you have the initial release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2002.

If you do you are encouraged to apply the Microsoft Visual Studio 2002 Service Pack 1 patch.

If you don't have Microsoft Visual Studio 2002 then breathe easy and relax, you won't be affected.

My advice is if you use Internet Explorer, switch to another, more secure browser.

I explained why Internet Explorer is a bad browser and reviewed the Opera Web Browser in a previous post.

Blogger For Word: The Newest Blogger Add-On

Yesterday, Blogger the highly popular blog tool released a pretty neat add-on called Blogger for Word.

This small add-on is downloaded on your computer and then a toolbar is added in Microsoft and using it you can type up your post and publish it, save it as a draft or edit any of your last 15 posts.

The download is quick and easy and gives you so much control in Word. With the click of a mouse you can do everything.
This is great especially for those who blog at work. Your boss can probably tell from the colors that you are using Blogger.

However, the Word layout can totally fool your boss. So go ahead and write up that "report" your boss wants for Wednesday.

Worm Alert: Zotob

Another worm is on the loose and creating much havoc all over the world. The Zotob worm has reportedly attacked CNN and ABC along with banks.

The Zotob worm also has turned very ugly as many of its variants have also been found floating around and wreaking havoc.

Zotob is a worm that is spread through a flaw in Windows Plug and Play Buffer Overflow.

The system that is most affected is the Windows 2000 platform. The virus is able to run on most platforms and while it may not infect your computer it could be used to infect other computers.

The Zotob worm is also a network worm which means it can infect whole networks once a computer has been victimized.

You can visit this page on Microsoft's website to download the appropriate patch for you operating system.

Hopefully, you won't be affected by the Zotob worm.

Microsoft And Apple Fight Over iPod Patents

So, Apple invented the iPod, right? Well, think again. It turns out that much of the technology that was used to create the iPod was patented one month earlier by Microsoft.

When Steve Jobs and Apple tried to patent the iPod and all its technologies they were rejected by the US Patent and Trademark Office. That was three months ago. The story is out now.

According to MacNewsWorld Microsoft may receive as much as $10 per iPod. Apple has sold more than 21 million iPods so . . . do the math, Microsoft is gonna get some big money if they win this patent dispute ($210 million).

Can you imagine the shock going through Apple right now? Their big product has been patented by their biggest competitor.

Not only that but Microsoft is also about to release a music playing device (similar to the iPod) of its own.

So, what's the lesson? If you think you've invented something patent it right away.

I don't think Apple can really do anything at this point, though I would have been laughing if it was the other way around: Apple beating Microsoft to the Patent Office. That would show Monopoly Man.

It will be interesting to watch the proceedings and I'll keep you up to date as to what happens next.

All around us we see the effects of the gangsta culture: the style of dress, the souped up cars and yes . . . even a new language!

Yes, we all have witnessed 'gangstas' on TV talking some sort of language that is supposed be English except no one understands what they're talking about.

Well Gizoogle.com is going to change all of that. If you want to learn this sophisticated and highly intellectual language or you are a young guy like myself who knows a little bit of gangsta talk then you might want to check this site out.

Gizoogle.com allows you to choose a web page and then translates it into Gangsta talk.

So choose your favorite web page (maybe even your own) and stick it in. What comes out is often hilarious.

I tried it on my own site and I got the Gangsta Tech Guru Blog. I'm guessing that Gizoogle goes in and changes certain words, because there still remains structure and sentence in the translated page.

Rogers Firefly: The First Cellphone For Kids

Rogers has come out with the first cellphone for the little ones: the Firefly.

This little thing makes it very easy for small ones to call daddy and mommy and it can hold up to 20 other phone numbers in its digital phone book.

The Firefly also has a button where a child could easily call 9-1-1 or the appropriate emergency number.

It has a 150 minute talk time and a 100 hours standby time. Included is a protective case and backpack clip, so the kids can carry it with them, and a travel charger.

The Rogers Firefly weighs only 56g.

I think this is great for parents who are concerned about the safety of their children or those who'd like to give their children a phone.

My only concern is that we don't of the long term effects of cellphone use on adult brains let alone that of a growing child.

Besides that it looks like a very good product and a neat gadget since it really is the first of its kind.

The Talking Frame From Brookstone

I saw this on the Dr. Phil show yesterday. This is a frame where you can obviously place a picture, but also have the chance for that person to record a special message just for you (see the button on the left side).

On the Dr. Phil show Robin (his wife) has two of these, each with a picture of a different son and a message from both of them.

She loved this thing because her sons were away on campus in University and she used to play it daily.

So, if you're a mom or dad that misses his/her son or daughter this may be the thing for you.

Macromedia has announced its release of Studio 8. This studio will combine DreamWeaver, Flash Professional, Fireworks, Contribute, and FlashPaper.


Dreamweaver looks slightly diferent and contains improved support for XML publishing - something that has gained a lot of steam in the web world.

There are many other fun and interesting changes that make Studio 8 a must have for webmasters.

Is the PC Losing Ground as a Gaming Platform?

When games were first made, many enjoyed playing them on their computers.

I remember when I was 5, I played these games on an old Mac. To this day I love playing games on my computer as I'm sure many out there do.

However, game consoles have totally changed the gaming world. Consoles have literally become computers and most games are available for any and all consoles.

Before, consoles weren't a big threat. They we're great because you can put the game on your TV screen, but the graphics were pathetic.

And portable game devices such as GameBoy, we're even uglier in terms of graphics.

But the scene has changed. With the new releases of both the XBOX and PlayStation which make a great product amazing, and the PSP has changed the whole look of portable gaming devices.

The exceptional graphics that all those three devices (among others) provide are better or equal to a computer's graphics.

XBOX and PlayStation can both connect to a network so that one can play with other human players, something that computers were good for.

There still are games out there that are played purely on the computer, for example Age of Empires, but I feel that the computer as a gaming platform has lost it's ground to other great consoles and devices.

A lot of tasks take up way too much time when you are on the computer.

For example, with Auto HotKey you could adjust the volume or mute it all together, use your joystick or keyboard as a mouse, change settings to your soundcard, alter the properties of open windows (height etc.), customize the tray menu with your own icons.

But the really cool thing is time saving while you type. Everyone hates righting out long words and that's we use short form.

This program can turn "ttyl" into "talk to you later". Pretty neat. If that's the only reason you'll download this software, do it.

Google Adsense Isn't The Only Kid In The Park Anymore

Google's Adsense program is arguably the most popular ad program web publishers use.
It's simplicity and minimal restrictions (i.e. no minimum impression quota etc.) make it a favorite of many publishers.

However, it seems that Yahoo is the new kid on the block and things are gonna get real messy.

For those who have never heard of this program I'll try to explain it simply.

Advertisers pay a certain amount of money to have Google publish their ads in AdSense.

Publisher, like myself, display these ads and when someone clicks on the add Google recieves a share of the profit and a share goes to the publisher.

There are many similar programs out there, but as I previously mentioned Google's Adsense is by far the most popular.

Yahoo though has introduced its beta testing of a similar program: It's going to be called the Yahoo! Publisher Network.

Obviously, this means more money for Yahoo and maybe less money for Google.

I think if Yahoo wants to succeed at this they have to make their program better than Google. . . and they've had two whole years to study this thing.

People may switch if they see that one can make more profit at Yahoo instead of Google.

I believe this is going to shake up the publisher and advertiser world.

For advertisers the dilemma is created: do I advertise in both or just Google or Yahoo?

And for publishers: Which is more profitable and which ad program targets better from the content I display.

Either way this will shake the Internet up a little, and for the good I say. Competition always means better quality.

It's going to be a great fight. We'll just have to see if it's Google or Yahoo who wins!

I Hate Spam!!!

Please allow me to rant. I believe that the following rant represents the majority of people out there who have a similar view.

Okay, I must admit I get only about 10-15 spam e-mails per day, others get way more (like hundreds).

Honestly, who ever invented this whole spam idea has to be given the death sentence. It totally ruins the e-mail.

Why is spam so successful I ask? Why? I'll tell you why!

Because some granny out there actually believes that the President of Nigeria needs to put $100 000 in her bank account for safekeeping or the guy with no love life who thinks his manhood is really gonna grow with that cream.

It's those 1 in a million idiots that keep this whole thing going! But it's us, the smart consumers who recognize garbage when we see it that has to pay the price!

That's why countries get tough on stuff like this. This should be illegal everywhere!

I just can't believe people fall for this stuff. How stupid do you have to be!!

For example, let's take manhood extending creams. Let's see you are going to have to apply that with your fingers so wouldn't that mean that your fingers would grow as well, or any body part for that matter?

I'm pretty sure there are people out there that are feeling the spam burn as well. Leave a comment if you want to vent.

Here are some tips on how to keep spam out:

• If you are recieving spam then put your e-mail filter to "high". Everything not recognized will go there. Don't forget to check it, sometimes good stuff gets caught too.


• Don't Open Spam E-mails. When you do they are notified that your e-mail account is legit and put you on hundreds of other spam lists. They can also track you around the Internet.
  


• Don't fall for this crap. Remember the saying, "If it sounds too good to be true it usually is". So cliche, but so true. Follow it!
  

That's all I can think of now. Wow! I feel better. Leave your comments about spam and take a weight off your shoulders.

Apple Brings Back Retro in It's New "Mighty Mouse"

Apple's new mouse looks a lot like it's older more traditional mouse. However, it's got some cool technology to go along with it.

The top shell actually has not buttons. No buttons? Yep, that's right.

Instead it has censors in place under the shell that detect what part of the mouse you are clicking.

It does have two buttons on the side of the mouse that can be programmed for special features within the Mac OSX interface.

The scroll ball feature is very unique to Apple's Mighty Mouse. One can scroll up and down, but get this: diagonally.

That must get really interesting. I don't even know how you would do that, but hey it sounds very cool.

Cellphones Fight Crime

Almost everyone has a cellphone, or are thinking of getting one. In the beginning, they were used to make phone calls.

People liked that because they felt safe. In case a crime occured you could call for help anywhere, anytime.

But now with added technology a cellphone is even more capable of fighting crime.

For example, one can take pictures with a cellphone. While, that is mostly used to take pictures of friends and family having fun, it could also come in handy when an emergency occurs.

In one case, a child was kidnapped and put in the backseat of a car, but unaware to the kidnapper she had taken a photo of him and when she escaped it didn't take long for the police to nab him.

One cannot have a camera on him at all times, but everyone has a cellphone.

Video capabilties on a cellphone are a great feature, but they also can fight crime by actually filming part of the event taking place.

While the quality of the pictures or the video may be pretty low, rest assured that as technology advances so will the quality. And when they do they could help to fight crime.
